What's With Those Spots??

This blog is dedicated to all our dog friends with spotted tongues. We love our Chow Chow brethren, but we are a little tired of people saying that every dog with a spotted or mostly black tongue is a Chow. There are more than 30 pure breeds that can have spotted tongues. Click HERE for a great article on the subject.

Lily - Dutch Shepherd / Aussie Mix

I met this cutie at Downtown Dog a couple of weeks ago.   I don't know what breed she is, but I think she's definitely an Aussie mix of some sort.  I like to think that her brindle fur comes from a Dutch Shepherd, but everyone I tell that to seems to pooh pooh that...

Anyway - is that the coolest tongue or what?!?

Harley - Bon Voyage!

I met Harley at Downtown Dog a couple of months ago.

He is young, silly, and full of life.  His spotted tongue is in there somewhere.  He is moving to Germany because his boy-human is in the military.  His girl-human got prepared the right way by taking dog etiquette lessons with the trainer, Ms. Laura (www.barkhere.net).  In Germany, dogs get to go practically everywhere - even on public transit.

Bon voyage, Harley!  Or should it be Gute Reise!  (Have a good trip" in German)

Pooka - Newfoundland

This is Pooka. He also has a great blog that we follow: http://nanookthenewfy.blogspot.com/

His spots seem pretty small in relation to his body - he's 135 pounds! He also deserves great congratulations, because he just got his Canine Good Citizen certification on Sunday.

Faith - Border Collie

Faith is a Border Collie mix belonging to Lost Paws Rescue of Texas.  She was adopted to a wonderful family in early December.  Look at her tongue in all of its spotted glory!

Maggie - Terrier Mix

This cutie-pie is Maggie.  She is a Terrier mix puppy.  I fostered her for Lost Paws Rescue of Texas for a little more than a month.  Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get a picture of her beautiful tongue.  She has a really big black spot towards the back of her tongue.

Zeus - Akitador

This is Zeus.  We call him an Akitador - the newest "designer dog".  He's actually probably mostly Shepherd and with a little Akita thrown in for his curly tail.  Isn't his spotted tongue beautiful?
